Reviewing World Pork Expo

Americans are well known for doing everything bigger than the rest of the world. The 2016 World Pork Expo certainly didn’t disappoint in that regard. It was my first visit to the World Pork Expo and with all the travel and work since the Pan Pacific Pork Expo, I felt like I was operating on fumes as I arrived in Des Moines.

Thankfully that feeling didn’t last long as once the expo got going the energy of the event really rubbed off on me.

Inside the World Pork Expo

If you haven’t had the pleasure of attending the World Pork Expo, let me paint a picture. It is over 300,000 square feet of commercial space crammed with rows and rows of booths for all the companies that produce pork industry products. Across the three days over 20,000 people showed up to enjoy good food, music, talks and products.

Not all of the 20,000 made it to the automed booth but that’s probably for the best. We had our hands full meeting new people, learning about the U.S. pork industry and of course showing off the rugged automed applicator and the traceability enabling automed system. As with the Pan Pacific Pork Expo, visitors seemed to leave with a very strong impression of the product and our vision for the pork industry.

A great start for automed in the U.S.

Considering automed is a new product from a country half way across the world, it was so encouraging to see that word had spread. A lot of the visitors to our booth had already heard about us, which was a surprise. Over the three days, we made some great connections and, without giving too much away, automed in the U.S. is something you’ll be hearing more about soon.

I’ve had to extend my stay in order to take meetings and conduct some big trials, the latter of which we will hopefully soon be able to share with you as well.

A big thanks to the World Pork Expo organizers and attendees. We’ll definitely be back next year, so pop another pork chop on the barbie – automed is coming.
